Maple Sugaring Season is Here !

Warmer days and freezing nights get the sap running in Vermont sugar maple trees.    This is the time of year you can see the process from collecting sap in the forests to boiling it down in the sugar houses.   Maple Open House Weekend in Vermont is March 25th & 26th, where maple producers open up their operations to visitors.   But you can come up just about any time now to take a look.   For more information on Maple Open House Weekend, visit their website.

We love going to Merck Forest in Rupert, where the sugaring operation is quite large.  You can take a walk, or hike this historic working farm and forest, with 30 miles of trails spread out over 3100 acres in the hills of Southern Vermont.   On March 25 & 26th they offer their annual pancake breakfast, $10 for adults and $5 for children.   Check our their website for more information.

Here at the North Shire Lodge we'll be serving our famous pancakes with blueberries and Vermont Maple Syrup.   Folks visit us and come back just for the pancakes - and they're free!    We don't stop there, in the evening our number 1 selling cocktail is Tim's own creation, the Mud Season Slide.   It's uses 2 Vermont maple liqueurs and other ingredients for a maple-y smooth cocktail on the rocks.  This is also a great time to see what else Vermont can do with maple sap, from bourbon, vodka, liqueurs, and even tequila!
